Of course, we make plans and we want things to go as planned, right? Who wouldn’t want this? But there will always be a moment in our lives when, even though we plan everything from A to Z, something unexpected happens. Well, we say it is unexpected because we aren’t considering it happening. And this is our mistake. We think that we are in control. We are optimistic. Nothing can go wrong.

What do we do when things aren’t how they were supposed to be — we infuriate, we get upset, we blame X and Y for what’s happening, and someone else or something else is always at fault.

We cannot control today’s events. That doesn’t mean that we should stop making plans, it’s good to have plans and to be organized, but we need to have a Plan B, and if we do not have a plan B, at least let’s learn to accept the situation. An event happens and we cannot control it but what we can control is our opinion about it.

“You shouldn’t give circumstances the power to rouse anger, for they don’t care at all.”

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.38

Why are we investing so much time and effort in analyzing all these events that are out of our control? An event doesn’t…
