My Favorite SNL Sketch: “Basketball Scene”

I’ve always loved watching Saturday Night Live (SNL) for a good laugh. Out of all the sketches they’ve done over the years, one is my absolute favorite — the “Basketball Scene.” This hilarious part features Pete Davidson, Kenan Thompson, Jimmy Fallon, Mikey Day, and Alex Moffat.
In the “Basketball Scene” sketch, the story takes place on a basketball court, with two characters, Robbie (played by Pete Davidson) and Coach Stan (played by Kenan Thompson), getting ready for an important scene. This scene is supposed to show the complicated relationship between Robbie and Coach Stan, with Coach Stan acting like a father figure to Robbie. But what nobody expected was that things would quickly turn into complete and hilarious chaos.
As the scene kicks off, Director Alex Moffat sets the stage for both the actors and the background players. He asks the latter to engage in some casual basketball action in the backdrop, a simple request that turns into a hysterical comedy act.
Director: Hey, basketball players.
Mikey: What’s up?
Director: So, right now, you’re just sort of passing back and forth and it looks a little bit weird. Just play basketball, you know what I mean…
