We’re Swimming with Sharks
How many times have you been a “shark”?

When we think of sharks, our minds often conjure images of sleek, fearsome predators cruising through the depths of the ocean. But, in a twist of allegory, sharks also find their metaphorical place on land — disguised as grimy individuals who exhibit predatory behavior in the human realm. The world can often feel like a vast ocean teeming with sharks — individuals who embody the characteristics of opportunism, deceit, and a relentless pursuit of personal gain.
One of my favorite songs is “Sharks” by Imagine Dragons.
The main idea behind the lyrics of the song is that the world is full of selfish and untrustworthy people who will take advantage of you if they can. As we grow older and gain more experiences, the existence of these metaphorical sharks becomes increasingly evident. We encounter people who seem to operate with a singular focus on their own interests, leaving little room for empathy or consideration of others.
However, there may have been instances when we, too, have displayed traits akin to those of sharks. Perhaps we acted out of self-interest, manipulated situations, or overlooked the consequences of our actions on others.
You think you’re better than them
Better than them
You think they’re really your friends
Really…
